Member Spotlight: Ben Koch

WIthout giving too much away, read below for a chuckle or two. Ben is the class clown, we all know that. If you had the chance to take a class with him, it's hard to take him seriously. Though, when it comes down to it, he's inside the gym for a good purpose. Sure, he may be chasing that "Froning dad bod," but he truly does just want to become better. He's chasing a healthier life to be able to be active with his family and is a good role model for his kids. He works hard inside and outside the gym, and he has been a long-time Kazamily member. Meet Ben!

Name:

Ben Koch

Where are you from?:

I am from Reading Pennsylvania

What is your athletic background?:

I played high school football and baseball; then collegiate baseball.

What was your first experience with CrossFit?:

My first experience with CrossFit was my aunt showing me a video of Froning doing shirtless pull ups.

When did you start CrossFit?:

I dabbled in crossfit somewhere around 2011, but it wasnt till 2014 that id say i did it consistently.

Why did you chose CrossFit Kazam?:

I chose Kazam initially because of its location. However, I continued to choose Kazam because i kept seeing them gainz and for the jackie perez poster.

What keeps you coming back?:

What keeps me coming back is the people I get to workout with. I really have met some great people along the way of becoming stronger and faster. It's always easier to suffer through a workout in a group setting.

How do you like to spend your free time (other than CrossFit)?:

In my free time i like to wrestle jax and tease jace. i also like to shoot guns and watch Carson Wentz, most importantly i enjoy long walks on the beach.

What are one or two improvements in your life since starting CrossFit?:

My wife tells me my legs look gnarly. Biggest improvement has to be just running around with kids, I don't get sore or tired.

What have been some notable achievements at CrossFit Kazam?:

I have a lot im proud of. Most notable has to be doing the worm workout with the crew specifically with Kellie. The amount of work that I had to put into each lift was literally astonishing. Chest to bar pull-ups with Dee, burpees with Fran at the Lumberjack Games, running over Steph during kickball at the Kazam picnic. I cherish all of these things.

What would you tell someone thinking about starting CrossFit?:

I'd say give it go. Come in for an hour and gut it out. CrossFit will never get boring and you will meet some great people while watching the gainz in the mirror.

What’s your favorite and least favorite CrossFit movement?:

Favorite movement has gotta be pull-ups.

Non-fav move is burpees.

What’s your favorite cheat meal?:

Redbull with chocolate chips.
