Member Spotlight: Cathie Cissone

Cathie is one of those ladies that you know is going to be at the gym every day, and if she's not, send out the search party, because something is probably wrong! She is one dedicated individually, always looking to improve her abilities and overall health and fitness. You may have to twist her arm, but I bet you she's down for a glass of wine post-workout if anyone is looking to share a laugh with this bubbly personality! Lets get to know Cathie a bit, shall we?!

Name:

Cathie Cissone

Where are you from?:

I have lived in Limerick for the last 18 years.

What is your athletic background?:

I played CYO basketball and volleyball a long long time ago. I coached CYO high school girls basketball at Sacred Heart Parish in Royersford from 2008 to 2016. I have participated in a few sprint triathlons, numerous 5ks, the Broad Street Run and most recently the Philly Hot Chocolate 15k.

What was your first experience with CrossFit?:

My first experience with CrossFit was when I walked into CrossFit Kazam in September 2015.

When did you start CrossFit?:

I started in September 2015 as a punch card member and soon realized that I loved it and became a monthly unlimited member.

Why did you chose CrossFit Kazam?:

I chose CrossFit Kazam because Kyle is a good friend of my son’s and we have known Kyle and his family for a long time. My son would say “Mom you need to go see Kyle and try CrossFit.” Also, the location is good for me.

What keeps you coming back?:

It’s like a drug. The feeling of being able to do something that I have never done before is such an accomplishment. The coaches are awesome, extremely encouraging, and always giving me different tips when trying to get a move down.

How do you like to spend your free time (other than CrossFit)?:

Since we are now empty nesters, I spend most of my time with my husband, Pete. We like to golf, go kayaking, hiking, and just hang out.

What are one or two improvements in your life since starting CrossFit?:

My improvements – although, I don’t eat very well, I have been more conscious of what I eat and my sugar intake. Another improvement is I have more confidence. I am still afraid that I will break my hip, but I have tried things I would not otherwise have has the opportunity to.

What have been some notable achievements at CrossFit Kazam?:

I did a rope climb! …it scared me to death, but I did it! I participated in Murph last year and I was pretty satisfied with my results!

What would you tell someone thinking about starting CrossFit?:

I would tell them to give it a try. Everything is scalable. You don’t need to get into shape to start – just start.

What’s your favorite and least favorite CrossFit movement?:

I like the strength movements. I like to see how heavy I can go and how heavy I can push myself. My least favorite? Surprise… Burpees!

What’s your favorite cheat meal?:

Ice Cream.. Especially Dairy Queen Reeses Pieces Blizzard

Anything else you would like to share with your Kazam family…. Kazamily!?:

Thank you. Thank you for accepting me, pushing me, and encouraging me, cheering for me. I never feel like I am judged. You make me feel like I belong. I won’t let you down!
